I FINALLY Know How to Fold a Fitted Sheet!
Not to brag, but, academically, I have earned a lot of letters behind my name. (If curious, they are B.S., M.D., M.P.H.) I have a career and work outside the home. That does not, however, mean that I don’t want to have the skills of the stereotypical domestic goddess.
I would love to keep a spotless home, prepare gourmet meals, and dress like I just stepped out of a magazine. Reality kicks in, and I do the best that I can. That is all any of us can do. That does not mean that I am not going to try to make little bits of progress toward the unrealistic vision. (I still love remembering my experiences learning how to make tiramisu, gnocchi, vegan lasagna, chicken noodle soup, and sourdough bread. I felt like a domestic goddess making these as well!)
One item on my “domestic goddess” bucket list (which I can NOW say has been crossed off ) is to be able to fold a fitted sheet. Usually, I end up recruiting another family member to help me fold, so the fitted sheets do not just end up wadded up in the closet. There is no room for that! I have tried watching videos, but I always encountered the same issue. Because my hands would be inside the corners of the sheets, when I got behind in the steps being shown on the video, I had no way to pause! I never got past the first 1-2 steps. It was really quite frustrating.
I finally recruited my husband to be the “pause button” guy. All he had to do was sit with my Chromebook as I watched a video on how to fold a fitted sheet and hit pause/restart when I told him to. He is a smart guy; he did the job very well. Being able to pause made all the difference in the world! After going through the process at my pace a few times, I am now comfortable folding fitted sheets. Granted, I practiced with a twin and full size fitted sheet. Next time I wash my bedding, I will try the larger fitted sheet and see how it goes!
Below you will find a video going at a pace which I think is easier to follow for any newbies. Now, I am almost (not completely, but almost) inspired to do some other housework!
Learning this skill may seem like a small thing in the big scheme of things. For me, though, it reminded me that I can continue to learn and apply useful skills. Perhaps my house will be magazine ready soon. (Perhaps not, but that’s okay.)

I promise I’ll try this the next time I fold the fitted sheets. You made that look so easy.

Let me know how it goes! My goal was to create the video in such a way that someone else learning could follow along with the steps even with the little “hiccups” that may come along the way. : )

I just fianlly took the time to learn this skill myself just a couple years ago. I also have been learing to properly tie knots.

I love how some of the learning some of these types of things really can provide a bit of an ego boost! It does for me. : )
